Based on last years event at HCC, was looking forward to this yrs. unfortunately sponsor got greedy and cut back on servers and draft beer variety. Beer selection too limited. Where's all the authentic German Beers? Shame in you for advertising as Octoberfest event. No way will do this next yr- groupon or not. Very disappointing. Save your money and go to Rudi Lechners instead for authentic German food and beer. Booooo!!!!!

This event was one of the worst I've been to. It has so much potential, especially in a big city like Houston, but the REALLY dropped the ball on this one. You could tell the small amount of attendees were all thinking the same thing. There was elevator music playing instead of German music- kegs were strewn about behind tiny beer stands where there were enormous lines of angry guests waiting for a ridiculous amount of time to purchase an overpriced beer that they could easily get at the nearest bar. I tried to get my money back so we could leave but they just threw a couple of 'beer tickets' at us and tried to make a bunch of excuses for why the event was so terrible. We just ended up giving these away and leaving to go to dinner somewhere else and get a beer...ironic!

From Our Editors

In its first annual festival, Houston Oktoberfest pays homage to the centuries-old German shindig by corralling more than 30 different beers from both local breweries and the Deutschland itself. German beers such as Hofbräu, Spaten, and Warsteiner swirl with crisp, effervescent flavors that pair deliciously with German morsels. Diners can also enjoy local seasonal pours and complement them by nibbling on autumn leaves. As participants mingle and sip, they can also swing their hips to the sounds of 10 different bands throughout the grounds. Louisiana’s Grammy-nominated Pine Leaf Boys headline the fest with a Cajun set complete with a squeezebox, raspy vocals, and fiddle, and Houston’s own The ‘71’s churn out hard-rock anthems such as “Confession.” The strains of traditional German music bounce off the nearby carnival area, which features games and rides for children, adults, and sentient lederhosen.
