Too crowded, lines were way too long, practically ran out of beer by 3pm, "tasting samples" were not enough for $2.50 a sample. Very unorganized. We had to park at Edison High and waited so long for the shuttle (nearly 30 minutes) that we ended up taking a Lyft to & from the event, so "free parking" wasn't really helpful for us. Apparently a lot of people said they had the same problems last year and it hadn't improved at all.

this was a BBQ cookoff competition there were approx 36 vendors of whom only 12 of them had food offerings and when they were out which happened to be around 2:30pm on Saturday 8.9 the event was boring, there was NO WATERMELON either. I felt like I did not get my money's worth ended up with food tickets I could not even use. very dissapointing.

Most vendors were SOLD OUT by 2 oclock .. Only 2 vendors had water and it was 80degrees outside. There were LONG lines for anything you wanted to sample and the small little vendors were overwhelmed, they couldn't keep the food coming out fast enough (Corn guy could barley cook it on the grill.. Cold and not very good) Also the 1st place winner for the ribs were cold and fatty..) which in return made them lack in quality... I would not recommend this to anyone .. AND I wasn't the only one to think this thought... OH and the topper !! 2 vendors got into a fist fight in-front of the entire crowd. Classy..

The portions were very small, the vendors were not prepared, it was hard to tell who was in the cook-off and who was just there camping, minimal alternate beverages..... no soda bottled water

I was there Sunday between approx. 11:30-2:00 and out of the 35+ BBQ Teams, only 3 to 5 of the Teams were actually serving food. I had purchased $40 worth of food tickets and only had 3 options most of the time during my stay. Some of the booths claimed they were done for the day and only doing competition. I understand that there is a limited amount of food at each booth at a given time in between cooking. But when only 3 to 5 booth are serving out of 35+ booths it is unacceptable when it is the only reason people paid to come to the event.

Groupon was not a deal. Cheaper price offered onsite. Beer crafter was very disappointing as beer choices were gone five before closing. NOT WORTH MONEY

Food was sub par quality. Ran out of most beers by 1pm on Saturday which is ridiculous. Long lines. Many food tent were out of food every twenty minutes. Should have been more free samples. No window on the inside of the event to buy more tickets. Had to go outside back in the entry line.

From Our Editors

True to its name, Ribs, Pigs & Watermelons is a food festival and pro competition that celebrates barbecued meats and the refreshing pink fruit in equal measure. Under a main tent at Huntington State Beach, watermelon is used in watermelon-carving demonstrations and seed-spitting contests. Meanwhile, more than 50 culinary teams from around the country—and a few from the show BBQ Pitmasters, as well as states such as Iowa, Kansas, Nevada, and California—clash on the grills. Each prepares their best takes on chicken, pork, and brisket, which are then judged throughout the weekend by professionals and lions disguised as humans. More than a dozen small-lot craft beers provide ideal pairings for these meats, and an outdoor stage encourages guests to dance off the grub with live performances by Maureen and the Mercury 5, Lil' Mo, the Dynaflos, and other artists. In the end, all of this revelry is for a good cause—all proceeds go to support programs that benefit the city's homeless.
