I had friends purchase VIP at Blu in the past, but never through Groupon, and we had a great time and a great experience. However, this was not the case for me, and I am sure I will never return to Blu, nor will I recommend it to others. The club service and atmosphere has greatly declined in the past year.
From the moment we were seated, I was lied to by the hostess. The package I purchased was supposed to include a bottle of Skyy vodka, a bottle of champagne, a dozen chocolate covered strawberries, and mixers. The hostess tried to give me Svedka vodka, stating that they don't even carry Skyy. Why was this advertised on both the Groupon and their website if that's the case? I ended up convincing her to bring us a bottle of Absolut, which is pretty decent vodka, so I was glad I wasn't stuck with Svedka, which is some of the cheapest, nastiest stuff I have ever drank. She had no idea about the champagne or chocolate-covered strawberries and seemed as though she thought I was lying about it. She went to check on it and brought back the champagne and a cup with four or five bruised, rotting strawberries. She said they don't have chocolate and those were the only strawberries she could find. I had chosen the $75 package over the $60 package because of the chocolate-covered strawberries. The $60 package was exactly the same with the exception of the strawberries. I felt like that was a waste of $15. I was disappointed, but I was determined to not let this ruin my night. She also asked for a credit card to hold the VIP table since she wasn't going to ask for the Groupon voucher until later in the night, stating that "no charges will be put on your card." The night went on, and we had a halfway decent time, but then the time came to show my Groupon voucher. I showed it to her on my phone and she left with my phone to input it into the computer. She brought back my phone, credit card, and a receipt where she charged tax on my card. She also tried to charge gratuity on my card, but she explained to me that something was not input in the computer right and told me the amount to fill in on my receipt so they could charge the correct amount. No where on the Groupon did it say that gratuity was required, however, we were definitely going to tip her regardless. After splitting a fifth of vodka and a bottle of champagne between four girls, I wasn't completely coherent, so it took me a minute to understand, and it wasn't until she left. I should not have had to pay tax on a credit card because this was not a condition on the Groupon. Also, I didn't want to leave a tip on my card; my friends wanted to leave cash since I had paid for the Groupon. We waited for her to come back, but she didn't. I went to look for her and couldn't find her. I ended up writing $3 on my receipt as a total for the tax (that I wasn't supposed to pay) and my friends left $27 in cash for her tip. $27 is a great tip on a package that was $75. Our ride was waiting outside, so I went to use the restroom before we left. While I was in the restroom, the hostess came back and argued with them about the receipt and got them to give her even more money to pay for the tax. I am not sure how much more they paid. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that I was blantantly lied to. I was told nothing was going to be charged to my card, and not only was something charged to it without my permission, but then a different amount was written in. The amount is not what's important, but the fact that Blu did not hold up their end of their advertised deal, which shows a complete lack of customer service and character. I will not be returning.
