awesome fun event ! the rain & mud made it even better.
it was SO MUCH fun. It rained that day, which made it even more fun, BUT we we really disappointed because it also made a huge line for the best obsticale, which we couldn't wait for, and closed the last slide because it was "too fast", even though we signed waivers. Also because the last slide was closed we didn't have finish line photos taken.
There wasn't really any staff. The course wasn't clearly marked. My sister had already been checked off the list as registered & almost didn't get to race. Several obstacles had to be shut down due to rain. The biggest obstacle had an air generator run out of gas & began collapsing on us 3/4 the way through. Water stations were all out of cups & water & this was an hour into the race day. What were they using our money for? Don't risk the disappointment.
Thoroughly enjoyed the race but do wish it had been better staffed. I think this was the first time for it in Indy & hope some of the kinks will be ironed out next year because I fully intend to participate again next year!!
Overall, great experience! Even with the rain, the course was fun and energetic. There were a couple of obstacles where having more volunteers would've been beneficial. There was also one part of the course where the route went along a steep grassy hill and participants had to side step the whole way. With the rain, this part of the course was almost impossible.
Can't wait for next year, this will be a tradition of ours for years to come!
The experience was GREAT!!
From Our Editors
Runners take their marks at the end of the course, awaiting the starter's pistol. In the distance, they can see the obstacle course ... and it seems to be bouncing a little. Such a scene is par for the course at the Xtreme Air 5K, an obstacle race that replaces traditional roadblocks with gigantic inflatables. Described as "a hybrid of a birthday party bouncy house and the obstacles on the TV show American Gladiators," these 12 air-filled hills, hurdles, and tunnels force runners to think tactically on their way across the 5K course. Check out a few of our favorites:
- Get Lost: Most 5Ks don't feature full-on mazes, but Xtreme Air isn't most 5Ks; find your bearings or stay lost until the checkered flag waves.
- Leaps and Bounds: A series of colorful speed bumps sets the stage for the big one: an oversize hurdle. You can go over or under—just make it past.
- The Gauntlet: A forest of inflatable tubes, a hurdle-blocked ramp, and a phalanx of giant hanging balls stands between you and the end of this memorable obstacle. Don't let it win.
