Seriously a horrible experience. We had been looking for a new dentist in our area. It was time for an annual cleaning, and I found a groupon for Dr. Rahbar. OMG It was one of the worst bait and switch experiences both me and my partner have ever seen. They sold a groupon for two to get x-rays, exam, cleaning, and "instant teeth whitening" for just under 100 dollars. what went on is beyond words I kid you not.
The first concern about this being a bait and switch experience is when we got there, and we were asked by the receptionist/wife if we would be interested in whitening, and we looked at one another and said, well yes of course that is part of the groupon we purchased. Hmmm strange question don't you think? Then once we were in separate rooms Dr. Rahbar came in and gave me some strange story about the whitening offer actually being "just a little side gift that was just thrown in, and that his in office whitening is very expensive". He said that he would just give us a packet to take home and apply ourselves. Oh but get this, lol...hmmm they have been moving and could not find them.
Huh!!?!! Wait.., well for one, when we arrived he told me with his wife there at the window in the waiting room with his then over the top slightly disingenuous sappy nice personality that he had been there for 13 years. I am now disturbed and concerned by this because nowhere on the groupon did it say the whitening was like an afterthought gift that was being sent home for you to apply yourself. I paid more than other offers for dental cleaning, exam, and x-rays because of the in office "instant teeth whitening" that was offered. ugh..
Ok, so you know that feeling when you begin to realize things are not going to be as you were told or promised, and that sick feeling that you are about to enter that kind of sleight of hand experience where you know what you know and saw/bought but this guy/gal is going to convince you that you are wrong, but your gut is telling you they are not being completely truthful at all. Now all the signs are there. eeesh Not sure why after all these years I don't just get up and walk out when my gut feels like that. Maybe just because we always hope and pray it really isn't going to be the case this time, and that people are good, and will do what they say they will. Well please believe my gut was dead on with this duo. They had no intentions of doing the right thing at all.
After Dr. Rahbar left clearly disturbed about being questioned about the possibility of not being clear or even completely honest in his advertisement, an advertisement that was the very thing that got both of us there, he went back next door to where my partner was and I then overheard Dr. Rahbar completely upset with the wife/receptionist saying that whitening should not have been included in the groupon. He told her to take the offer down. He then went back over to my partner and began to tell her that she had horrific periodontal issues after he had just reviewed her x-rays and teeth and told her they looked strong and great with no cavities etc. So now suddenly after being asked to honor the groupon that we paid for and that got us there in the first place, he is refusing to do the cleaning as well because he now suddenly says she has horrible periodontal disease and he is referring her to a periodontitis. I walked over to the door, and she looked at me and we both knew he and his wife were up to no good with this, and that they had no intentions of honoring the groupon without making additional money.
Upon questioning his intentions to honor his offer he continues to create reasons and excuses why he is not, at which point he begins to guilt us for all that this offer is worth for what little we paid. Seriously!?! He did not just go there!?! I love when merchants have a resentment when a customer redeems an advertisement that was offered by them!?! DON'T RUN THE AD!! DON'T MAKE THE OFFER!! But please for crying out loud don't punish/guilt us when we redeem that offer, but don't intend to let you sell us a ton of service we do not want. You have now not only wasted my time and your time. The sad part is that you had absolutely no respect for the value of my time that you took, and you are the one that baited me to take time out of my day to come into your office under false pretense through false advertising. Shame on you! Please believe I will try to warn as many people as possible so they don't fall victim to your unsavory business tactics/ethics. Seriously it is best for everyone if you just don't run ads that you resent honoring if you think you suspect the bait and switch method will not work on that customer once you get them into your office.
To ad insult to injury. After we left having nothing but x-rays done, which we never would have let them do if we had known about the bait and switch they had planned. We would have just gone to my current dentist. I felt sure that because of the really awful experience they put us through that they would at least given the courtesy of sending the x-ray images over to my dentist so we would not have to be subjected to the harmful radioactive photos again! BUT NO.. I called and she wanted us to pay twice what we paid for the Groupon which was supposed to include the x-rays. These are not good people! :(
