Almost a century ago, the Jackson Zoo began as a small collection of animals in a firehouse. Since then, the zoo has moved to a plot of more than 100 acres, where it gives locals access to a wide variety of animals—more than 125 species. Those residents include rare Bornean orangutans, chimpanzees, and tigers. When visitors aren't watching the animals at play, they can take a whirl on the endangered species carousel or ride a replica steam train around Livingston Park.
