Held on the banks of the Missouri River, Kansas City's Fourth of July festival blends song and dance with fireworks and civic pride. The kid-friendly f?te will showcase three stages worth of entertainers, ranging from blues musicians to dog training. Known as ?the first family of fireworks,? the Zambelli family will provide a sneak peak of its extravagant pyrotechnic displays on July 2, then fully illuminate grinning, fried twinkie-covered faces with a 19.5-minute show on July 3. The fest also includes special events, such as the ceremonial lighting of the new Christopher S. Bond Bridge. Festival-goers of all ages can gleefully scream on more than a dozen rides and countless popular games, provided by the historic Lowery Carnival Company. Check out local merchants at the marketplace or bite into juicy, jumbo hot dogs, barbecued pulled pork, and other classic carnival food at the River Caf?.
