Geering Up offers fun hands-on activities for youngsters that revolve around STEM, an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. And since this nonprofit is affiliated with the University of British Columbia, it's backed up by true STEM know-how. UBC students designed and operate the program, leading in-school workshops, weeklong summer camps, and weekend clubs. Their interactive experiments have ranged from building biodomes and Alka-Seltzer rockets to programming robots and functional websites. But regardless of the experiment or project on the docket, the goal is always to get young people excited about science and math, as well as to encourage them to consider STEM careers in the future.
