“Who’s next?” comes the call from the counter at La Bagel Delight, where a friendly—but efficient—staff keeps the line moving. They’ve spent more than 20 years meeting the demand for their freshly baked bagels, which the bakers hand-roll, pop into boiling water, and bake to a golden, chewy finish. There are a dozen kinds in all, including egg, pumpernickel, and three whole-wheat varieties. The staff also layers fresh Boar’s Head deli meats onto toasted heros to form their specialty philly cheese steak, monte cristo, or pastrami supreme.
