Each October, Cambridge Bavaria Haus hosts an Oktoberfest celebration with German food, music, beer, and the audible clinking of steins. This year’s festivities include live performances from Peter Baumann’s Oompah Band and Ties that Bind. It’s part of a citywide Oktoberfest celebration that raises funds for more than 70 affiliated local charities, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, seeing-eye-dog training schools, and area homeless shelters. And while the event's charitable efforts deserve acclaim, it's not the only thing notable about this local Oktoberfest: National Geographic named it the best such celebration outside of Germany, stating that visitors can expect "an authentic taste of Germany from a city that was named Berlin until 1916."
