Hawaiian locals use the phrase “Broke Da Mout” to describe food so delectable, that one barely chew. From this phrase, Broken Mouth was born, and runs under husband-and-wife team Tim and Louise Lee. Their belief that food speaks a universal language of comfort and joy informs Broken Mouth's simple, yet deeply flavorful menu. A lunch plate is comprised of tender grains of purple rice and creamy potato-macaroni salad nestled against a protein like kahuku-style garlic butter shrimp or egg-battered ribeye slices. A la carte items like the fried chicken sandwich with Lee's specialty hot sauce finds its perfect partner in the sweet and tangy shoyu-braised potato. And if mouths are still intact at this point, the cranberry bread pudding should help successfully break them wide open.
