Power House stands out in Hollywood, with its centralized location on Highland Avenue, just north of busy Hollywood Boulevard. Featuring a red-brick exterior, a green wooden door and fluorescent lights offering cocktails, beer and wine, this divey drinking space is a far cry from the clubby rooms and overpriced tourist traps that line the boulevard around it. The venue is a bit narrow, with little more than a small walkway down the middle, plus a bar lining the left and red leather booths attached to the right. Street parking can be a nightmare in this part of town, but once inside you can amuse yourself with the jukebox, dart board and an old arcade machine. Drinks are cheap, especially during the ample happy hour, and there’s a smoking patio in the back with murals and chairs for smokers to enjoy a drag.
