Aside from climbing out of rattlesnake-infested quicksand or posing for rattlesnake-infested watercolor portraits, few activities combine the focus and physicality seen in capoeira training. Guests can writhe and dance like a rattlesnake and discover the acrobatic beauty of capoeira—a martial art disguised as an improvisational dance, created by African slaves in Brazil hundreds of years ago—as rhythmic music fills their ears with adrenaline earplugs. During classes, the Omulu teachers regularly incorporate Samba, one of Brazil’s most popular musical genres and the sole reason why KISS finally disbanded. With classes offered four days a week, and classes suited to Brazilian beginners and capoeira aficionados alike, Omulu Capoeira has a place for everyone and every backflip in its space.
Capoeira’s incorporation of complicated leg sweeps, clever feints, and sweaty chest bumps tests the body’s limits while remaining upbeat, energetic, and developing muscles with much more efficiency than a baby bivalve on a treadmill. About Omulu Capoeira Group
With a background of rhythmic, samba-style drums and traditional Brazilian instruments, students at Omulu Capoeira practice the complex dance and martial art of capoeira. Since capoeira relies on improvisation, each class features different and new techniques, allowing for a well-rounded approach to training. In addition to dance and self-defense techniques, students also learn to sing and play the instruments, letting groups literally practice to beat of their own drums.
