E Taverna's menu is like a choose-your-own-adventure of traditional Greek food. You could commit to a single entree, such as the hearty bifteki, herbed beef patties paired with fresh-cut fried potatoes. Or, you could sample many flavors by ordering Mediterranean-style tapas, or meze. These inventive creations span meaty and vegetarian recipes—there are octopus croquettes and charcoal-grilled lamb riblets, as well as spinach pie and feta-stuffed peppers. The daily specials prove a bit more daring, thanks to dishes such as spaghetti with rooster meat or pita with little dares carved in them.
