D.C. (Palmer College of Chiropractic). The concept of Elysian Holistic took form after the owner, Dr. Rob, worked for several doctors from Florida and New York, and decided to combine the best aspects of these practices while eliminating the concepts that didn't work. What came out was a fully integrated practice combining the worlds of physical therapy, acupuncture, massage and Chiropractic into a fully synergistic model that achieves it's goals in a serene and peaceful environment. Though Dr. Rob has lived in Florida for much of his life, his goal was to return to New York City, where he was born, to treat the many conditions that New Yorkers, who live fast-paced and demanding lifestyles, suffer from. His broad knowledge base, drive to succeed, and laid back patient centered approach prove him to be one of New York's most outstanding doctors in his pursuit to help individuals live pain free, healthy lives.
Chiropractic is a specialized field in the healing arts, and by prior rights, the spinal adjustment is distinct and singular to the chiropractic profession. The intention of a chiropractic adjustment is to affect or correct the alignment, motion and/or function of a vertebral joint. Specifically, they are intended to correct "vertebral subluxations", the term given to the signs and symptoms that are said by chiropractors to result from abnormal alignment of vertebrae. The definition of this procedure describes the use of a load (force) to specific body tissues with therapeutic intent. This 'load' is traditionally supplied by hand, and can vary in its velocity, amplitude, duration, frequency, and body location.

Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that has been used by physical therapists since the 1940s. Ultrasound can produce many effects other than just the potential heating effect. It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, as well as facilitating nutrient and waste product exchange with the bloodstream and the affected injured tissue cells. A typical ultrasound treatment will take from 3-5 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. In cases where scar tissue breakdown is the goal, this treatment time can be longer.
Medical massage is outcome-based massage, primarily the application of a specific treatment targeted to the specific problem (s) the patient presents with a diagnosis and are administered after a thorough assessment/evaluation by the medical massage therapist with specific outcomes being the basis for treatment. It is also known as clinical massage or treatment massage. There are many massage schools and programs that teach medical massage as a technique. Though medical massage is any massage treatment used to treat specific medical conditions. There is no one technique that is medical massage. Medical massage is taking whatever style of massage the practitioner knows and applying that technique to specific conditions to bring about specific outcomes.
Electromuscular Stimulation and Heat Therapy
Electrical stimulation is a modality used in physical therapy. It is the use of an electrical current to cause an effect on the tissue being treated. The most commonly used applications for electrical stimulation include: pain, inflammation, muscle spasm; healing skin incisions, healing bone fractures, muscle atrophy, and enhancing delivery of medication through the skin. Electrical stimulation will affect the body in many different ways including: stimulating muscles to contract; stimulating nerves to decrease pain; increasing blood flow to speed healing and reduce inflammation; stimulating cells to reproduce and speed healing; and improving the flow of medication through the skin. EMS is usually coupled with a hot or cold pack to enhance it's effects on muscle tissue.
Spinal traction is a form of decompression therapy that relieves pressure on the spine. It can be performed manually or mechanically. Spinal traction is used to treat herniated discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, pinched nerves, and many other back conditions. Spinal traction stretches the spine to take pressure off compressed discs. This straightens the spine and improves the body's ability to heal itself. Patients with spinal conditions benefit from this therapy because the traction reverses the force of gravity. It is most commonly used to treat slipped discs, bone spurs, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, facet disease, sciatica, foraminal stenosis, and pinched nerves.
I had serious back and neck pain that persisted for a year before I finally went to see Dr. Rob. I'm a big runner and played sports all my life, so I thought this was the main cause of my issues and would be something I'd have to deal with for my whole life. He was very diligent in exploring every cause and seemed to pin point it right away. A lot of the neck issue had to do with sitting at a desk for hours each day. I immediately purchased a standing desk and after 6 months of weekly chiropractic visits, combined with PT and massage therapy I feel great! He truly 'fixed' me and I am back to running and exercising as much as I want. I also rarely get headaches anymore!
I had been experiencing a lot up upper back tightness and after seeing Dr. Rob I finally had massive relief! He was very thoughtful in his approach which included massage of the area and massage of my entire back with one of his massage tools in his arsenal. He knew exactly where my discomfort was and promptly addressed them. His adjustments were gentle but thorough. I highly recommend seeing Dr. Rob for any of your aches and pains!
