I made a last minute appointment via Groupon for a cut and partial highlights. I have very fine, light, natural blonde hair but like to have a few highlights in the winter to brighten it up and give a 'sun kissed' look. I have been to many salons since moving to NYC trying to find a good colorist and have been consistently disappointed as they have all added too many highlights or highlights which are chunky and obvious; not the natural look I have been after. Michelle's salon is lacking in frills, but at the end of the day, I want to leave with great hair not pay for a venue's decor. I was happy that the salon was a real shop, i.e. it is on the ground floor with an entrance directly from the sidewalk; not hidden on an upper floor of an overnight apartment conversion like some of the places I’ve seen through Groupon. My appointment was with Orlando and all I can say is that he is a hair genius. My highlights turned out perfectly, thin and natural just as I wanted. My cut (long layers) was great and everything still looked good four weeks later for my engagement photos. I couldn’t be happier with the service I received and will definitely be returning.

I bought a groupon and I am always a little skeptical when i do! But it was w great experience! Eduardo was fantastic! Great color and cut. He listened to me and he was a lot of fun! One thing.. I was charged an extra $40 as single process means roots only and I was getting full head color!

After looking up reviews from Yelp, I was convinced that this was going to be a great experience however this was the worst salon I have ever experienced in my life. I feel that because I had a Groupon they treated me worse than a regular customer. I asked for a single process hair color, burgundy red, and the hair stylist Joe insited he had to charge me an additional $75 dollars since the groupon I purchased only covered root single process. The groupon made no mention of roots only but I agreed to pay the additional money because I was already there after traveling so far. I asked for 2 inches to be cut off my hair however it seemed like 6-8 inches was cut off. End result, the hair color was close to black, which was close to my original hair color, blow out was terrible, half of my hair was frizzy the other half blow dried, cut was uneven and lopsided. Joe insisted I would love it, tried to chat me up to distract me from my awful hair, color and style. He told me to come outside so I can see the red in my hair, I saw nothing but black. I complained to the front desk and they accused me of lying saying my hair color was not close to black when I first came in and saying we could all look at the security tape. Lucky for me I kept my hair that was chopped off by Joe. I was insulted and to top it off Joe also said I looked 10 years older than my age. Joe said I should come back he could fix it and I refused. I did not want my hair to be in even worse shape than it already was. This was the worst experience of my life. I've never been treated so horribly. Please avoid this place at all cost.

When you have a certificate the give you the least experience hair stylist. Even though the hair stylist was very nice and trying to satisfy my daughter, she left disappointed.

Joe is SO great. He did a beautiful job with my highlights. I will definitely be back to see him, without a groupon next time !!!!

After graduating from a beauty academy at the age of 19 and spending the better part of a decade honing her skills, she moved to New York City in 2004. Since then she's challenged the status quo of the American modeling and entertainment industries and explored new possibilities in the craft of hair styling, though she's never used a hairbrush to solve a murder. Her work includes smooth and silky manes, avant-garde coiffures knitted into swirling vines, and models who appear mummified by their own frizz-free locks. As the owner of Michelle's Hair Color Boutique, she continues to mold tresses with services such as highlights, color, keratin treatments, and perms.
