From Our Editors
Before he could enroll in his first middle school class, Jim Hilgedick already had a portfolio of his own pictures. At the age of 9, Jim began teaching himself film development and printing, and before long, he was documenting graduations, school events, and vacations. His enlistment into the Army in 1985 initiated a 19-year hiatus from photography, which finally ended when he founded JH Portrait Design.
Inspired by the inextinguishable passion he had for photography in his youth, the award-winning photographer specializes in portraits of high school seniors. Jim snaps artful pictures of students in his studio or at locations meaningful to them, from their favorite park in town to their favorite hiding place for their lunch money. After each session, he retouches images to remedy any blemishes or dark circles, and arranges prints into products such as wall portraits, folios, and books.
