I would recommend this photographer but not for a Groupon session. I'm thinking we got a different experience with a coupon (hopefully). I am writing this with the understanding that this is going just to Sweet Light Studio and not a public review. I don't have any interest in giving a public negative review because it might be my expectations are not appropriate - lending to more disappointment.
I didn't know what to expect and would have liked a brief intro when we arrived or a five minute conversation on the phone before. I wasn't sure what exactly we should do - act naturally, pose, smile, try to get the kids to smile (or not), probably follow her lead - but that wasn't clear and on my mind the whole time.
I realize we were with kids and I must say she is absolutely fantastic with kids and she jumped right into interacting with them. This is the main reason I would recommend her. She knew exactly what to do with them to make them feel comfortable.
I wish there was more attention to detail in the photographs. I stepped in a few times but I wasn't sure if I should and held back a bit. I thought this should have been from the eye of the artist. For example - move over just a bit there is a tree growing out of your head (the tallest person) from the back ground. I know this is not a Lifetouch portrait (which I don't like) but there were just some things that seamed like quick fixes and obvious to me. And this is why I am assuming the photo shoot would have been different if we paid full price (not that it should be that way). I think it should have been a chance to show us (me) that this was really worth the investment.
I could choose 10 photographs and it was actually hard as I really only liked a few of them. Maybe I am being too picky. I wanted both girls in focus, I wanted their dolls we brought more in view, I didn't like all the squinting outside, or a lot of the compositions. I wanted a good shot(s) of the two girls and a great one of the family. I didn't want any of my husband and I (which I kind of expressed - not to seam unloving towards my husband) and didn't need any of the girls individually. I felt we wasted time on this. (This is why I used a Groupon. Not because I do not value professional photographers time, skill and talent but because I didn't know what to expect from a professional photo shoot. I felt things were rushed and after noticed the time and we were there for 40 minutes total for an hour long shoot with extra paid for outside shots.
I do love a lot of the photos on her blog/portfolio and have a few shots that I like (not love). So possibly an excellent experience for someone else.
