Tongue wagging, a playful pooch scampers around Wonder Dog Ranch's rubber-floored play area while others lounge on couches and gnaw on toy bones. Nearby, a staff member looks on, making sure the pups don't engage in any bad behavior, such as fighting or off-track betting.
The supervision is more of a precaution than anything because Wonder Dog Ranch requires dogs to pass a complimentary temperament test before they're allowed to frolic with the others during daycare or stay overnight in the cage-free boarding facilities. For those who pass the test with flying colors or grease the right palms with their slobber, playground equipment, faux grass, and a pint-sized bed await.
The staff ensures that its wards stay safe with more than just a temperament test—they also use eco-friendly cleaners and have a local vet come out periodically to inspect the premises. A portion of the fee collected for each dog's stay is donated to a local pet-friendly charitable organization, such as the Foothill Unity Center Pet Food bank.
