The course playing surface was great but the cart paths were 90% unpaved rough dusty and probably 4 to 5 miles long. Considering we played 18 holes [ twice around ] the normal green fee is much too high at $40.00.

Course was only 9 holes ( which you play twice for 18, who wants to play same hole twice?) and the layout was way too spread out. No yardage or hole layout maps in the tee boxes or on the scorecards. Never knew where the pin was located when you started each hole. The first 4 holes are situated inside a housing development with nice homes bordering both sides of the fairways making novice players like me way to nervous about accidentally hooking or slicing my shots into a house. Been to considerably better run courses for less money than the typical green fees would cost. Overall disappointing experience based on my expectations going in.

The course was not bad but: 1) hard to get to easily unless you lived close by, 2) only 9 holes and the flow was interrupted after 9 by new people coming out, 3) generally unremarkable

The course will be great when complete. As a 9-hole course it is still very nice. I would not have been happy to have paid the full-price rate, but with the Groupon it was a good value.

Extremely crude set up. No yardage makers except for a sparse one on a rare sprinkler head. Holes are spread extremely far apart. Rock paths. Such potential if ever developed - and gorgeous designed holes - but course is so poorly equipped - I will not be back.

Course is in great shape. Only wish they could get the other nine holes. Thanks!

From Our Editors

The nine-hole course at The Club at Blackthorne stretches for nearly 3,000 yards of expansive fairways and receptive greens designed by Palmer Course Design Company, Arnold Palmer’s namesake firm. Players tee off on the 400-yard par 4 first hole—with the eighth, one of just two holes 400 yards or longer—sending their golf balls flying against a horizon dominated by the Laurel Mountains in the distance. The fifth hole’s huge arc of a dogleg presents golfers with a classic risk/reward shot off the tee, much like hitting shots over a pool of lava onto a green made of chocolate. Golfers can attempt to fly the cherry trees in hopes of reaching the green in one stroke—thereby risking a tight lie in the fescue grasses—or they can lay up near the fairway bunker for a short iron shot into the green. The signature ninth hole demands similar theatrics, as a lake and six bunkers team up to force a 200-yard carry just to reach the fairway, and an elevated green renders approach shots trickier than their short length might indicate.

Course at a Glance:

  • Nine-hole, par 33 course
  • Total length of 2,947 yards from the back tees
  • Course rating of 68.4 from the back tees
  • Course slope of 135 from the back tees
  • Four sets of tees per hole
