Anchor isn't interested in chasing trends. Esquire praised this spirit when it placed Anchor on its 2014 list of The Best Bars in America, in which it described the bar as a survivor of the '30s and '40s cocktail-lounge era, an atmosphere that has "worn into a dark, sexy seediness" over the ensuing decades. The ambience is indeed dive-meets-diva: burgundy walls adorned with black-and-white photos complement the space's soft, intimate lighting that makes the jukebox's rainbow glow stand out even more. To accompany its beers and cocktails, Anchor also features a food menu filled with familiar staples, including burgers, fish and chips, and hand-cut french fries that eschew swankier bars' hand-polished grains of salt.
