From Our Editors
Traveled by the city's Native American inhabitants and earliest explorers, Bayou St. John was a central New Orleans travel hub for generations. Kayak-iti-Yat owners Sara and Sonny love to take guests paddling through this historic waterway, pointing out the architecture, history, and idiosyncrasies of the accompanying neighborhood. Passengers glide along in Jackson Regal kayaks with ergonomically-designed seats and adjustable foot holds, moving past City Park and its centuries-old live oak trees, as well as historic Spanish Custom House and the Fair Grounds Race course. Trips putter along at a calm, leisurely pace, giving guests plenty of time to take in trees draped in Spanish moss or blow raspberries on the bellies of passing pelicans.
