The casual attitude at Ginger, in the East Village, begins with the lemongrass-green sign out front and continues inside on the bright red and yellow walls. There’s also plenty of color on the plates, especially in dishes like the teriyaki salmon fillet, the tuna tartare, the octopus salad and the citrus and jalapeño-sauced sashimi splash, served in a martini glass. At the sushi bar, there are more than 30 types of rolls, including the Rocco, with banana and eel; Rooster, with spicy king crab and tobiko; and S & M, with spicy mango and shrimp. The restaurant’s charm crosses over to the check, which comes with a complimentary dollop of ginger ice cream.
