Though Pitopia gets noticed for its vegetarian menu, which is certified kosher by the Orthodox Union, the restaurant has also attracted attention for the distinctive taste and texture of its falafel. Great Kosher Restaurants Magazine found that the crunchy exterior and flavorful, soft center of their signature recipe represented "everything one would want from a falafel ball." Kevin Cohnen—who co-owns the shop with Jackie Ho—told Margaret Whitfield of Examiner.com, “In Israel, I discovered the most wonderful falafel served in a café owned by a nice Israeli couple. They gave me the recipe and then trained Jackie for two months in the art of preparing this moist and flavorful dish.”
Pitopia serves its freshly baked pitas in a convenient standup box that lets diners pile them high with unlimited toppings from the salad bar. The eatery also allows guests to personalize their hummus and sandwiches with sauce varieties such as tahini or cilantro. Though most patrons get carryout orders, it’s also possible to sit down at a small counter area.
