Passing by Jeff Staple’s Reed Space in the Lower East Side, it’s tempting to blow it off as yet another trendy t-shirt shop. Step inside though, and you’ll see that it’s so much more. Named in honor of Staple’s high school art teacher, this “lifestyle boutique” sells an array of unique graphic and print tees, footwear, caps and toys. The walls also serve as a gallery for cutting-edge artists like Andrew Sutherland, Tomokazu Matsuyama and Seb Jarnot. The shop’s passion for music is clearly visible in its inventory of soul, hip-hop, jazz and R&B albums, as well as deejay-spun events and signings by musicians like John Mayer.
