In this class we will address the songwriting process including lyrics, composition, and song structure. We will discuss how and where to insert jokes when writing funny songs and will spend time focusing on vocals and musical creativity even if students don't necessarily play an instrument or sing.
In this no pressure, total fun workshop students play a variety of lively, entertaining games and exercises without the career focused pressure and intensity of fellow students "climbing up the ladder". Class session ends with an optional single performance.
In this fun, informative class, you'll learn the basics of "yes and", stage presence, blocking, interactivity, and working in front of a live audience. Through theater games and exercises you'll build solid skills initiating scriptless scenes, keeping alive and active within text, and connecting with your scene partners and the audience.
Speaking Shakespeare Without a Stick Up Thine Arse
With all the beautiful museum pieces and ideas about the right way to "speak the speech," it's easy to forget that we are most deeply effected by classical plays or any plays! when we catch glimpses of what is innately and universally human in them.
Scene Study: Context and Subtext
What can the shape of a scene tell you about the character you are playing? How can you use the text to deepen your on-stage relationships and sense of connection to the material? Using scenes from great classical and contemporary American plays, this class explores ways of using the text and arc of a scene as inroads into emotional connection, character, and on stage connection to your scene partner. This class is good for Actors and improvisers wishing to improve their acting technique.
