Private Dog Training Lessons & Free Evaluations
In-Home Dog Training
In-home dog training is a viable option for individuals and families who have a hard time getting around and/or for dogs that exhibit out of the ordinary behavior on their home turf. This training consists of a dog trainer coming to your place of residence and addressing the issues presented by the dog and the dog owners. A typical home visit lasts from 1-3 hours and is what I would call an evaluation/lesson. At the end of the session the exercises are recapped and a "homework" list is put into affect. This list will consist of suggestions on how to handle your dog in particular situations and obedience exercises you can practice in the confines of your home. There will also be a decision made about the future of the dog and his/her training. Ninety-nine percent of the time only a single house call is made and then private lessons, group classes or a board and train program is recommended for the remainder of the dog's training. This final outcome usually proves to be less costly than having a trainer come to your house every week for a scheduled lesson. Of course my mutual guarantee remains in place: if you do your part of the work you will see significant improvements in your dog and if you don't, I will work with you until you do. Starting at $150.00
Dog Board and Train / In Kennel Dog Training
Dog board and train programs are some of the oldest means of dog training.
Hunting dogs and guide dogs, which are some of the most reliable dogs on the planet, are still trained in this fashion. It is, by far, the fastest way to see dramatic improvements in your dog's behavior. That doesn't mean when you get your dog home that your job is complete but it does make the transition from bad to good behavior much smoother. It also gives you the confidence to handle your dog in the manner in which he/she needs to be handled to achieve spectacular results. Remember the job of the kennel training staff is to prove to you that your dog can be well behaved in all situations, including situations in which the dog acted inappropriately in the past; it is your job to continue on this path to success, that these trainers have so graciously lead you to.
Dog board and train programs for dog obedience typically last between 2-4 weeks, with 3 weeks being the average stay.
Dog behavioral issues such as extreme aggression, shyness, fear or insecurity may take longer. In these situations a ball park estimate will be given in terms of the stay required. This estimate will be based on past experience with similar dog's behavioral issues. In cases like the aforementioned, it is best to listen carefully and err on the side of experienced trainers. If the trainers suggest an extra week of training to iron out the rest of the wrinkles, it is wise to allow them that time. Experience is second to nothing in the dog training business and you want the best results possible for your dog, especially when he/she comes with extensive behavioral baggage. Price range from 1-5 weeks.
Dog Sports and Schutzhund
Bite-Work-Shop & Sport Obedience
Bite-work sessions will last in accordance to how many dog and handler teams show up; for many dogs need to be worked individually. In this workshop we will be working on sport protection work and foundation bite-work. All dogs, from green or beginner dogs to advanced dogs that need troubleshooting and problem solving, are welcome. $40 per dog and handler team.

Call to inquire.
Believe it or not, your dog needs time away from you and the rest of his/her family. This time away allows the dog to develop confidence. It is very important to develop this type of self-confidence at an early age. The dog begins to realize that when you leave him/her that you are always going to return. Having these skills may not seem important to you right this second but if something were to happen, out of your control, and the dog needed to be boarded away from the family, it is extremely important they he/she be able to cope with the stresses of separation. For dogs that exhibit signs of separation anxiety and/or a constant need for owner attention, boarding them is an absolute must. Do not let these behaviors get so out of hand that the dog is left doing something destructive to your home, yard or in the worst case him/herself.
Unlike dog boarding, where your dog spends his time to him/herself and interacts with the kennel staff
dog daycare provides your dog his much needed canine socialization time. Dog daycare is set up to accommodate those dogs that just want to visit for the day, those looking to spend everyday or every other day and every option in-between.
Dog daycare is an excellent option for those individual owners who spend much of their time at work.
By sending your dog to daycare you may also see energy related problems, such as excessive barking, chewing, digging, drooling, tail chasing and many more, become less frequent or diminish all-together. Remember a tired dog is a well behaved dog.

School for Dog Trainers
School for Dog Trainers
In a world where people are growing up further and further away from nature and all of its creatures, where instead of being able to interact with dogs on a regular basis we are restricted to pet stores and dog parks and where fewer and fewer people are tolerant of animals sharing space with us humans (which is a terrible shame). We need more educated persons on the subject of dog behavior and obedience training, so that dogs may once again join our ranks and stand at the left side of mankind as they have in the many years past.

Life's Abundance dog food (cat food), treats, supplements etc. never hit a pet store chain, warehouse or grocery store.
Their food is only delivered fresh directly from the manufacturer. This way the food is always fresh, generally never sitting for more than 4-6 weeks before it is shipped to a customer. Most dog foods sit months or even years in storage before they are sold and by then the nutritional value of the food is compromised. Agitation Collars: Solid Brass Hardware
These dog collars are meant for dogs participating in an event or training exercise where stress on the neck of the dog is often applied. There most common use is in agitation work.
Stitched & Pop Rivited for Extra Strength
These handmade leather agitation collars are the highest quality collars I have had the pleasure of using. The craftsmanship on these dog collars is second to none. All collars are 2 ply leather, folded over, stitched together and then fastened at all stress points with pop rivets (8 to be exact). Only high quality brass hardware is used in their construction. These collars when used properly will last a lifetime.
2" collar: Nylon Lining to Keep the Leather from Wearing
In the two inch collars a strip of nylon webbing is sewn into the collar where the brass hardware makes contact with the leather. This stops the leather from wearing down from the inside. Dogs that put a significant amount of pressure on these collars can stress the leather and these are the first collars I've ever seen with this ingenious feature.

Dog Training Testimonials

Marie, Mazzeo, Karen Beasley and Patricia Piantedosi - President, Director and Dog Coordinator (Kitty Connection Inc., Medford, Ma.)
Batman came in to our rescue organization as a misunderstood dog with 'supposed' issues. An initial evaluation determined that Batman was aggressive, prey driven, and not good with cats and children. He was in boarding in a crate where he couldn't even stand up. The evaluator said it would be best to euthanize him. Kitty Connection stepped in and stopped the euthanasia and pulled Batman out and put him with a trainer in Arlington. We believed he was adoptable but needed to find the 'right trainer' to evaluate him.Batman will continue to train with Batman on Sunday's, for as long as Brandon sees fit, and then we will find him his forever home. We will also mandate that Batman's adopters use Brandon as their Trainer. A very happy ending to a very frustrating, heartsick past couple of weeks. Kitty Connection would like to thank Brandon for showing us and the people that were doubtful, that Batman is truly a dog that is adoptable and a dog that really was so 'misunderstood'. We will recommend Brandon to everyone!! Move over Cesar, Brandon IS the dog whisperer. THANK YOU!
I began attending Brandon's obedience classes a few months ago with Ripley, a 9-month-old male GSD who had some confidence issues with other dogs. Brandon helped me learn to build Ripley's confidence through a combination of daily behavior training and immediate correction of unwanted behavior. Thanks to Brandon, Ripley is growing into a well-behaved pet who now mixes comfortably with almost all other dogs and he recently passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen's test. He is also doing well in some of Brandon's more advanced classes and we are beginning to train for rally participation. Brandon is a gifted dog trainer with an uncanny ability to handle complex behavior issues both in one-on-one private sessions and group sessions. I can't recommend him highly enough.
Cheryl & Maggie, the "Boxador"
Thank you, thank you Brandon! Your obedience classes have given ME the confidence to be a better dog owner by being able to really communicate with my dog. Your classes have given MAGGIE the obedience experience and socialization that has made the difference in her behavior. We both have benefitted from your knowledge, know-how and patience in teaching. Your obedience classes are informative, challenging and very instructional yet always fun, with new experiences within each session. And... a few laughs as well! Love the variety of dogs, large & small and their owners. It all adds up to one terrific learning experience. I am attaching a picture of Maggie & I that is proof of my new confidence in Maggie! Never would I have attempted a trip to Boston to participate with over 1,000 other dogs in the MSPCA Walk in September if I had not felt the confidence that you have helped me to develop. Your training allows me to take Maggie into these new situations knowing that our "communication" will allow us to enjoy the experience. There's a still a lot more for us to learn... So, Maggie & I will be seeing you in class again, real soon. Sincerely.
Marie and Jim Haberlin
We have been training our Rottie pup Axel with Brandon Since March of 2009. Brandon shows sincere interest and has knowledge in all breeds. Every class he asks if anyone has any problem behaviors or questions. He demonstrates excellent listening skills and can explain the dogs behavior with a good sense of humor and gives solutions that work. He has earned our respect as a professional trainer and shows affection to Axel as well. Brandon is the "Real Deal".
Marie J. Mazzeo - Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services
Brandon helped a Somerville-Cambridge Elder Service client to retain their dogs when they became unable to take their three dogs out for walks. Their dogs are their lives and in no way wanted to surrender them. His training has enabled this happy family to remain together.
Along with my husband Jimmy and my two dogs, Balian and Nymeria, I am pleased to highly recommend Brandon Hayes as a canine expert and trainer. Brandon does more than train dogs; he truly understands how they operate and how best to communicate with them. Balian is a sweet dog who craves leadership. Nymeria is full of energy, enthusiasm and spunk and needs clear guidelines and boundaries. He interacts with each of our "kids" differently and from the moment he met them, it was clear that a mutual bond and respect was formed. In addition to the wonderful relationship he forms with his canine clients, Brandon is also highly skilled at effective communication with us humans. In class, I never feel nervous or pressured. As a handler I learn so much and as a dog lover, I have an absolute blast. Brandon gives plenty of one on one attention and seamlessly blends this technique with leading the class as a whole. We all are blessed to know him and to be the recipients of his guidance and expertise.
Kim, Janine and Kobe
We wanted to let you know that we enjoy working with both you and Brandon. We look forward to the class and hopefully Kobe does too, lol. Both of you make the training fun and not an endless chore. There is something new to learn every week. Today was geometry, lol. The part I like the best is not always the same dogs or same group of people week after week. Different faces and different breeds mixes it up quite nicely and we wanted to thank you both of you for the fun time.
I can't say enough good things about Olympia Kennels and Brandon. I brought our 2 year old blood hound to them for a five week train and board after a so called leading specialist in animal behavior had given us completely inaccurate advice, the result being that her fear based aggression had worsened to the point of her being almost house bound. I had heard nightmare stories about "doggie boot camps" and I wanted to make sure that wasn't the situation there. As I was waiting to meet with Mike Pinkston I asked a woman who was there waiting for a lesson with her dog whether she could give me any information. Her reply:" Mike knows dogs better than anyone I know". Over the course of the next month Brandon has gone above and beyond the call of duty working with me to get things right...and I am VERY confident that we are on the right road. Brandon lets my dog know- in no uncertain terms- that he is the boss. Once upon a time I would have been startled by his quick and decisive corrections, but there is NOTHING negative or unpleasant about them, they redirect my dog's attention back to her relationship with Brandon...a relationship in which my dog feels safe and secure...and therefore doesn't have any need to react aggressively. Brandon's work with me has essentially been to support ME in developing the confidence that would allow me to take over that role with my dog-so that she can feel secure and safe with me. I have emailed him endlessly with questions and he is available to help and advise...his knowledge and understanding of dogs seems intuitive and is very thorough. He takes this very seriously... working with the dog, the family, whomever, in order to make the fit work. I am incredibly grateful to him and to Olympia Kennels for saving us from what could have been a very sad ending to this situation.
Joe Ferraro - Owner and Dog Trainer at K-9 Academy New England
Hey Brandon, thanks again, the seminar was great everybody loved it!
Enjoyed the class today, feel like it will be good for Zara - and me of course. See you next Sunday.
Jen Davis - 12/19/2012
Dear Brandon and Melissa, I just wanted to write to thank you for the incredible job you did with Mina. The board and train option was perfect for us and she returned home a more confident and relaxed girl. I am now able to trust her more fully which gives her the confidence she needs. Everyone who knew her before training has commented on the positive difference in her behavior and general demeanor. I have recommended your training to a few friends including the woman who runs her doggie daycare. I am sure they will all be as satisfied as we are! Definitely money well spent. Thanks again!
Jen Davis - 11/13/2012
Just giving you an update on Mina's return. She is doing really well, everyone has commented on her improved attitude! A friend of mine is considering bring her golden to you for classes and she mentioned that Mina has a different look in her eye and seems calmer overall. I also mentioned you to the dog daycare owner who was looking for somewhere to bring her dogs. Sunday morning she laid on the front steps while I raked. A man came and got into his car right in front of the house (a move which would have made her absolutely mental in the past) and she just gave him a look, a short low growl and then ignored him. No bark.. I was amazed. Took her for a walk down a busy street, she was very responsive to me, walked by people, she didn't make a peep, a person walking their dog on the other side of the street got a look nothing more. We stopped for a sit at every street crossing. We kept heeling the whole time. I am very pleased with her progress. We're going to keep working but I just wanted to tell you that she's doing wonderfully. Looking forward to Saturday!
Hi Brandon, Just wanted to thank you again for coming out. As soon as you left Bronson was on the couch snoring away and he slept til this morning. I think he will get better with some of the things you showed us to do. Thanks again!
Brandon, I did take Bob out on Sunday (the day after meeting you). I took him by the dog park where we were and up the bike path. Incredibly, we only passed 2 dogs, but the GOOD news is that he was fine. Also, I did the heeling you showed me (in one hand and I don't look down at him) and it was great. He wanted to go ahead as I knew he would, but, he was great. We will be back Saturday and my goal is to take him out as much as possible. He will either be great or I will definitely want to do a follow-up with you. We could certainly come your way.
Hi Brandon, Just wanted to let you know Bailey is a changed dog since you were here. He is behaving so much better. The mailman came yesterday and he never even barked. He walked over and then just walked away. Amazing!! I am going to try the vacumm cleaner today. Also, he has not slept in the bed. We told him "no" and he layed down next to Eric's side. Thanks for all your help. Until you came we didn't realize how "bad" he was behaving. You taught us lots! Great job!
Hi Brandon, Leah has been a changed dog since doing what you taught us to do! Danny says I'm a drill sargent with her, but it works..... no more yelling with no results!
She's been great. Like having a new dog. Lindsay's been more strict with her and its made a huge difference.
Hi Brandon, I received your email, thank you. First I wanted to say THANK YOU very much for your instruction during the 4 weeks that I was able to attend classes with Lily. I know you have a lot of clients and see many dogs hopefully you remember us. You do amazing work with the dogs. I found the information you provided very helpful and I do think that I would benefit from some additional instruction for working with Lily and her anxiety/insecurity. I know you said that it is completely up to me if I found the classes helpful and wanted to continue but I am very nterested in your opinion for what may be useful for continued training of Lily. Thank you for your time, Best.
Hi Brandon, Mack is doing great! We went camping four times this summer and he loved it. Especially when he was off leash. He listens a lot better now and I thank you again for all your help.
Eryn (leopard dog owner)
Hi Brandon, Thanks for today! It gave me some hope for this puppy of mine! I worked with him quite a bit today and it worked wonders. I can't thank you enough. We will see you sunday.
Tom and Beth O'Donoghue
Hi Brandon, The "Doodles" are doing well. They have actually been coming when I call. We have been able to have them 'off-leash' during our walks in the woods here at our house and they come back when called. It is great. We cant thank you enough for your training class. Be well,
Hi Brandon, I really enjoyed meeting you last night, and hearing all the info you had to share. Your approach is a no-nonsense way that I totally agree with. I am glad you got to meet Kyler, she is coming along nicely. Thanks so much
Hi Brandon; I do want to assure you that through observation of class, etc., I always come away from each lesson with new knowledge of handling dogs. I admit I don't have many problems with my dogs that need the kind of attention that new people in classes need. I attend your classes because you have proven to have a very special talent as a trainer and that's why I always recommend you. Maybe someday you'll be on NatGeo as the East Coast Dog Whisperer! (oh yeah, poor Dom just wanted to stay home and watch the Bruins playoff game).
Brandon, Thank you for coming all the way to Swampscott to visit Cooper. We thought it was really worthwhile to get your input. Coop is already responding to what you taught us last night. Thanks again. Regards,
Hi Brandon. Thank you for helping me with Jasper on Sunday and giving me some new information about his behavior.
Hi Brandon, We really enjoyed your class this weekend and would like to continue with obedience classes.
Sharon & Tricksy
Brandon, Thanks again for all the help with Tricksy. We really enjoyed the classes!
Brandon, We enjoyed the bite class today and I 'm sure we will come again; I'm usually way up in NH from fall until the spring on Sundays but we will come again. You have some nice dogs up there. Thanks.
Ann, John and Gracie.
Hi Brandon, Other than the weather, which you couldn't control, we had a great day today and feel we gained a lot of positive insight into ourselves and Gracie. We've gone from hopeless to hopeful, and while we still don't know what we're going to do with her, at least now we feel confident that we DO have a good dog. One thing's for sure, if we keep her we'll also keep up with training classes, though we need help to find someone compatible here on the Cape. Your approach and techniques felt more natural to us so that's a good start. We welcome any insights or suggestions you have now that you've observed us and her. Thank you for everything today-it was worth every second of the drive to and from Rowley!
Hi Brandon, You helped me with my lab pup Tuukka a few months ago. I am very happy to report that he is doing GREAT! Your sound advice and training tips helped us to focus him and he's learned what is appropriate in play and what isn't. He looks directly at us now instead of the toy when we play, and also knows when we want his attention on us for other things. Armed with this knowledge and combined with how incredibly smart he is, he now has a bunch of tricks (my personal favorite is 'back up'). I would love to do more training with him - he needs to be challenged. I will check out your website to see what is coming up soon. Thanks again !!
