Deep waters harbor both the ocean's biggest secrets and some of the earth's most magnificent creatures. So it's little surprise that Newport Canyon—a formation that creates a water depth of more than 1,000 feet—offers the chance to see an abundance of marine life both above and below the surface.
Luckily enough, that canyon sits a mere two miles out to sea from Newport Beach Harbor, putting it well within the touring area of Newport Ocean Excursions. But what really makes a difference during the company's aquatic tours are its vessels. First of all, they're customized to be ideal whale-watching platforms, with an open-bow design that allows guests to safely yet thoroughly experience the open water. Just as importantly, the boats are retired Navy and Coast Guard vessels, meaning they offer safety, utility, and reliability. This includes speed capabilities that allow them to cover more water in less time for better odds of spotting the variety of whales and dolphins that populate the warm coastal water of the Pacific.
