Winner of Newport Life Magazine's Best Kept Secret Award for 2011, afternoon high tea at The Spring Seasons Inn Tea Room sweeps visitors back to an era of bygone refinement with tiered trays of elegant eats accompanied by personal pots of tea from an extensive menu. Upon arrival, visitors choose teacup from a roster of willing vessels and confused flowerpots before filling it to the brim with teas from a carefully curated list, sipping liquid cookies such as the creamy black tea with white chocolate chunks or the Long Island strawberry, a smooth green tea teeming with sweet fruit pieces. Enhanced by South Indian masala spices, the Cochin Masala chai, adds bite to the spirited conversations or sedate rendezvous. Freshly baked scones with cream and jam warm visitors’ stomachs, whereas the selection of tea sandwiches and desserts, like the slowest county-fair ferris wheel ever, rotates with the seasons. Guests memorialize their tea-drinking experience with a souvenir Limoges-style teacup accessory ready to add refinement to at-home tea sets. The Spring Seasons Inn Tea Room is open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
