Typically, the common thread that connects all the bed and breakfast stops in the River Valley is the St. Croix River. But every March, the 60-mile river takes a backseat, and it's chocolate that connects the region's many inns. Lots and lots of chocolate.
During Chocolate March—which takes place over three consecutive Sundays—beautiful B&B inns across the St. Croix River Valley open their doors and chocolate cellars. Folks buy tickets that act as self-guided itineraries and maps to the quaint havens where guests will indulge in artisan chocolates. The afternoon's itinerary also includes stops at local wineries with at least one wine tasting per tour. At the last stop, tour-goers receive a $20 discount certificate toward a B&B stay or one of the select inn restaurants. And thanks to the self-guided nature of the tour, there's freedom to visit the quaint B&Bs and wineries in whatever order makes sense.
