Fun! Good instructor. Easy to see and hear. Goes at a decent pace for everybody.

instructor was not very good and her male assistant basically was texting on his phone the whole time. Also, handed out paper dishes for the paint pallet and by half way thru the class it was such a mess trying to scrape the paint off the dish but they seemed to be rationing supplies, which included paper towels, paint and the paper dishes.

We had a terrible experience. The instructor was no help and we would have been very disappointed if we had to pay full price.

I submitted the feedback pasted below to Colors & Bottles on 9/24/2012, and the response was an apology and offer for 20% off a future session. I replied that I wouldn't pay again to attend. There was no other response. I would not recommend to anyone else. This was the first Colors & Bottles event that I've attended so I'm not sure if my experience is typical or not, but I wanted to relay that it was far below my expectations. I have attended similar events (by different companies and studios) and in comparison, the event fell flat. I want to share so your future attendees don't have the same disappointment. The biggest issue was with the supplies and materials. While the painting tables were set up prior to the class, the brushes looked like they had been chewed up by a rapid animal. The art instructor tried to correct the situation by providing other brushes, but none of them were really any better. The paint seemed either cheap or old....not sure which, and it would have been nice to have a roll of paper towels at the table instead of at a station that was difficult to get to as our tables were very close together. Additionally, the painting that is shown on the site is apparently just an "idea" or "concept" as the instructor said that she created it using an artists paint set of 48, and it would be difficult for us to do so. We could not create our own colors easily as the only way to mix was on foam plates. So all the colors ended up kind of blending togehter whether you wanted them to or not. The staff did incredibly well as bad weather hit us so we could move indoors...so I do give credit to the instructor and the garden center staff for that. Another issue that I had was the instruction itself. I'm not sure if she was having difficulties with the size of the class or setup of the Garden center, but half of us had our backs to her so we could not see what she was doing....nor did she explain as she started to do something new. Several times, patrons shouted out "What are you doing now?" ... as she would start something new without explanation of color, brush selection or technique. Basically, all I really got from it was "make water drips" and keep creating branches and leaves. She was incredibly nice and personable but I didn't feel like I received any instruction or guidance. I could have created a similar canvas in my friend's garage or by watching a PBS show. I really didn't expect it to be a high-end art class, but it felt like pre-school finger painting time with wine. I hope this experience is not common and was just a matter of venue, illness, etc issues as it is a great idea and could be a fantastic time. But the supplies and instruction really should be improved if this is consistent in other sessions.
