NOT a facial. I left a review on Yelp. It would have been funny had it not been really so terrible. About 30 minutes, all while clerk (not aesthetician) coughed over me. She put on and took off three lotions and I was "all done".

I don't usually give negative feedback but I hope this will help improve the quality of the service for other groupon holders. The store is in the heart of New Caanan. Very nicely decorated and clean. I used the bathroom which was downstairs in the bowels of the center. Walking past messy storage and clutter! The facial was done upstairs in loft area above the retail area. Up there I noticed there was no sinks or running water. The facial started with no assessment of my face. She applied soap and then wiped off with warm towel, then applied another product and removed with the same towel that was now cold. I sat under steamer and then had an extraction in the dark followed by placement of moisturizer. That was it. My face still felt dirty from all the other products. There wasn't any massage done or if it was I didn't realize it because it lasted 1 minute. I drove all the way from Fairfield and was looking forward to a great facial! The girl was pleasant enough and did tell me she just graduated from beauty school but it was very amateur. It was not the quality that I expected from a Merle Norman and from New Caanan. I would give it a 2 out of 10 because the girl was young, new and pleasant. I think the owner needs to get a facial from her and then get her some better training! I was greatly disappointed and can't even give my 2nd facial away! If the technician was good I would have bought make-up, but I just wanted to get out of there!

The products used and the service was not worth the price. I bought few chemical peels. But it is a big waste of money.

From Our Editors

In the late 1920s, the Great Depression was rendering most Americans professionally and financially paralyzed. But in a small California kitchen, Merle Nethercutt Norman was putting a plan in motion to formulate her own skincare products and share them with family and friends. She truly believed in her formulas, knowing that by getting them on as many faces as possible, she would develop a following of customers. She was right—within a few years she and her nephew were opening their first studio in Santa Monica, and they eventually unveiled a series of independently operated stores that enabled women to take ownership during a time of gender-based limitations such as men-only restrooms.

Today, in approximately 2,000 stores across three countries, the three basic principles of Merle's original vision still apply. Each studio is independently owned and fosters an in-depth knowledge of the company's own line of makeup and skincare products. Just as Merle shared her creations with close friends more than 80 years ago, today's aestheticians embody the business's "try before you buy" philosophy. A menu of complimentary studio services—from foundation checks to express facials—allows patrons to sample the lauded brand before committing to the purchase of products or full spa treatments.
