Rome ruled much of the world for centuries, but very few people know that "Rome" is actually an acronym for Run Obstacle Mud Event. At least, that's the case presented by Race R.O.M.E., an all-ages adventure that blends modern-day mud runs with Roman history.
During the event, gladiators grapple with one muddy obstacle after the next, some of which are more challenging than saying Constantinople five times fast. At one point, race participants can even climb aboard a 60-foot boom and peer over the course like a true emperor. Once everyone has crossed the finish line, food and drinks fuel an after party, and a costume contest awards the day's best get-ups.
