Several buildings with interesting historical groupings, crafts, artisans, workshops, gifts, friendly staff Large courtyard Try the Underground Railroad Trail at nearby park - leads to the actual Sandy Spring origin

We recommend this museum because it is a very small museum with good information about the local (immediate area) history There are resident artist studios on site which would be nice to see but only one was open when we visited on a Saturday I would recommend going with a Groupon deal (or the like) and during days when they have a special activity/event My daughter's school went there for a field trip last year (I chaperoned) and I thought there was more to see but I was wrong My world traveler husband said he had never felt as intrusive at a 'sacred' place as he did the day we visited the museum

Go the first Saturday of the month, when there are open studios for pottery and other arts, with refreshments.

Not much to the museum. Groupon should be free and donation to the museum at the door.

Very interesting information about early Quaker life and slavery. Would probably be of most interest to folks living in the Sandy Spring, Olney, and Ashton area.

Really enjoyed it. They were one week away from a major renovation, so there wasn't much there when we went. Will need to go back again to see the updates. Will probably wait for another groupon to do so.

The museum is small but the train show is great for the kids.

From Our Editors

Sandy Spring Museum preserves artifacts and archival records from Sandy Spring’s storied past as an 18th-century Quaker community that eventually grew into what was at the time one of Maryland’s cultural and industrial hubs. In several exhibits, some of which rotate periodically, visitors can walk through a traditional farmhouse kitchen from a bygone era, explore the area’s historical social clubs, or learn about the plight of one of the country’s first and oldest communities of African American landowners. The museum also hosts events and community programs, such as a historic homes tour.
