Pizza and beer. They're also the focus at Oggi's Pizza Express. The restaurant began its life in 1991 as a simple pizzeria, where brothers George and John Hadjis turned out hand-tossed pies topped with everything from pepperoni and sausage to canadian bacon and pineapple. The brothers added a microbrewery in 1995, catching the craft-beer movement's first wave while tending to their their burgeoning pizza empire.
Diners can create their own pizza by selecting either fresh homemade dough or a gluten-free option before choosing between six different sauces and cheeses and a variety of vegetable and meat toppings including mushrooms, Roma tomatoes, grilled chicken, and pepperoni. Also available are Oggi's specialty pies, which come topped with unique combinations of savory ingredients, and cooks also accommodate special dietary requirements with vegan cheese and gluten-free dough options on the menu. The available award-winning microbrews include California Gold, a refreshing cream ale, and Paradise Pale Ale, which gets its fresh hop flavors from British crystal malts and a full-flavored pale malt.
