From Our Editors
Though Jason and Joshua Bruner can't walk on water, they do have the ability to fly above it without anything even resembling wings. From their outpost just off the shore of Lake Ivanhoe, the Bruner brothers––or, as they've come to be known, the Fly Bros.––are sharing the modern sport of flyboarding. The certified instructors begin each session by getting students laced into boots that attach to the flyboard (similar to a snowboard), and then towing them out into the water via a Jet Ski. The board is attached to a long hose that draws water out of the lake and propels it powerfully through two tailpipes under the board, launching riders into flight. Beginners hover excitedly as they find their balance, and more seasoned boarders ride the air as if it were an invisible wave or moving walkway. Each 30- or 60-minute session includes rental of a wetsuit and helmet, and the brothers also host private flyboarding parties for groups.
