When Doctor of Chiropractic Emilie Perras's mom was pregnant with one of Emilie's brothers, she decided to visit a chiropractor to alleviate her severe back pain. She found her treatment so effective that she began bringing 3-year-old Emilie and the rest of her family to the chiropractor for regular checkups. When it was time for Emilie to choose a career, she opted to become a chiropractor so she too could help families.
She now specializes in alleviating pain through specific spinal adjustments that remove any pressure on the nerves. With the pressure removed, the body is then able to heal itself, resulting in reduced back pain, headaches, and neck pain. The spinal-reconstruction treatments improve the flow of information from the body to the brain, as well.
Emilie works alongside her husband, acupuncturist Martin Perras, at Oaktree Chiropractic & Acupuncture. Martin, like Emilie, decided he wanted to help others, so he left the corporate world to study Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Using sterilized, hair-thin needles, he stimulates specific points in the body, which increases blood flow to the area. This also encourages the body to heal itself, and it can treat such issues as anxiety, fatigue, and addictions.
