Ziad really cares about each haircut. I've been finicky and anxious about hairdressers for years. No need anymore. Thanks!

The stylist who was supposed to do my cut ended up being out sick, but no one called me to cancel or reschedule my appointment. The owner agreed to do my cut himself, but behaved as though this was a great favour to me. He also mentioned several times how I was getting a designer cut at a bargain price. EVen though I liked the cut, the attitude made me not want to return.

I bought the $29 groupon for a basic haircut as I do not wish to highlight my hair anymore. I went on Aug. 28, 2012, and as I know my hair is too dry from overhighlighting, I decided that I would purchase the hair mask recommended by Joe which was apparently on “sale” for “50% off- $25 plus tax” and it was the last jar of that product in the store. I ended up having $47 charged to my visa 51 minutes after arrival at the salon ($3.75 in tax for the groupon, $28.25 for the product, and $15 tip). I went home and opened the 3 inch tall jar. I could stick my tape measure 1.5 inches down into the jar without getting any product on it. It was half empty. I did NOT use the product at all and went back to the salon on Saturday September 1, 2012. I took the jar and my credit card receipt since Joe did not give me any form of receipt from the salon. Ziad (apparently the owner) was there and when I said I wanted a refund on the half empty jar, he refused and told me everything comes like that (ie with no packaging or anything to seal the container and half empty). He took the product I had to the back of the shop and then he proceeded to open two other products and wave them in my face claiming that nothing comes full and that they do not sell stuff that has been used in the salon and everything is done by weight (that is not true since the product is in mL and litres are a measure of volume NOT of weight). So then he went on claiming that I got such a good “deal” on the “50% off” product and I said NO, I looked this product up on the internet at home and I can buy it for $26 plus tax from a spa product website and I can get it on ebay with shipping included for $31 total. So then he tells me well you still saved one dollar! Wow. Then he starts telling me he is going to be sooooo nice and let me have any other product as an exchange. I said no. (I was not about to be fooled twice since a) not a single product had a price tag displayed on it, or on the shelf, or anywhere, and b) I did not have internet to find out the true cost of anything since it has already been proven that they do not tell anywhere near the truth verbally). Then he waved my visa receipt in my face and told me that it does not say that there can be refunds. To which I responded that that was my visa receipt since the salon did not give me any form of receipt which said anything either way about a return policy and there is nothing posted anywhere in the salon about no returns being allowed and I was not told when I bought it that it was final sale either. At this point he has my product and my visa receipt and I am standing on the customer side of the counter (where I remained during the rest of this encounter). He tells me to leave. I said no I am not leaving empty handed unless I get a refund. So he goes to the back and hands me this jar and proceeds to ignore me. I open the jar as I was wondering what he was doing to it in the back, out of my sight, and I see the consistency is totally different from the product I came in with. I look at the outside of the jar and it is made by the same company but it is a different product. So I said this is not the product I came in here with, what is this? So he tells me he was giving me a fuller looking jar. I said no, that is NOT what I came here for so where is my product. Then I did get the original product back and he is just in a rage ranting at me to stop talking and “go sit down like a good little girl and I will deal with you later”. I said what do you think this is an elementary school? (for your information, I did not say this at the salon but I reached the legal age of majority in this country several years ago and age is not relevant to a product return anyways). Then he starts threatening to call the cops on me and he is going to sue me for being “trashy” “which is really going to cost you money”. I said you are going to sue me for being “trashy” because I asked for a refund? I said I have not raised my voice, or yelled at you, or swore, or called any names and here you are being rude, ignorant, name calling, threatening cops, lawsuits etc? Then he starts calling me “unladylike” and I was like why? Because I am standing here on the customer side of the counter asking for a refund? I don’t even remember how many times he threatened lawsuits (and went on about all of his rights to sue) and threatened cops (which I told him multiple times to go ahead and call because I wasn’t worried but then he would not actually call, I even volunteered to call them myself). He was also going on about how everything was on camera and voice recorded and I said that’s great, I am glad it is! Somewhere in the middle of this I did get the original product and my visas receipt back from this individual and I told him the Better Business Bureau and Groupon would both be hearing about this. Now Groupon I suggest you contact this “merchant” and get the tapes because I sincerely do want you to watch the video and the audio of this incident. I also want my Groupon (631-JD-164290) refunded and you can tell your crazy merchant I still want my $47 refunded too. I personally have travelled to 34 countries on 5 different continents and have spent multiple years of my life living overseas and nowhere have I ever seen anything even close to this in Canada or abroad.

Vasanta was great. She gives good hair advice and suggestions when asked, hair wash was amazing...nice short relaxing wash...best ever ;) Didn't expect a discounted offer for next visit and it was less than the groupon voucher....which is amazing....which is why I will definitely return. Service is great. Next visit I will try for another look or similiar style, if the cut is how I like it I may stay for good if not, at least recommend it.

Worst customer service I have ever dealt with. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Learn to not yell and insult your clients if you disagree with them. I will NEVER go back, and neither will anyone I know. Trust me, I will spread the word.

I found the entire experience extremely unprofessional. I was asked for money under the table; i Was not seen until 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment; my hair cut was ONE INCH shorter on the right side and had to PAY to fix it; was constantly being asked to pay more money; and the guy was rude ("When I tell you the put your head back, you put your head back', and was constantly making a blatantly disguisted face when touching my hair - I could see this in the very LARGE mirror). I am generally a low-maintenance person and not too picky about getting my hair done. But this was by far the worst hair experience I have ever had (and I on a regular basis attend places such as the Cut Above).

From Our Editors

Perfection Hair Design & Spa’s owner and Hair Master Ziad ignited his passion for 'do design in 1986, and began honing his snipping skills in Lebanon. In 1989, he opened his own studio in Ottawa, whose popularity soon necessitated a fortuitous move to a more central locale on Bank and Slater streets as well as a name change to Perfection Hair Design. His customer base continued to swell through word-of-mouth as he and his styling team bred loyalty among satisfied clients.

To keep his cuts up to date, Ziad now frequently travels to hair expos, design shows, and conferences throughout the world. This accumulation of coiffure know-how enables his salon to fashion new looks to hit points across the style spectrum, from sophisticated and chic to mohawks to functional hawks' nests. Perfection's partnership with the New York–based Schwarzkopf Academy grants them access to its line of hair products, which fortify strands alongside serums from Moroccanoil and Advance Group.

Ziad has also added a spa component to his salon, enlisting chief aesthetics expert Rania to take the reins. Guests can complement a new hair colour with nail services and makeup or pamper pores with Dermalogica formulas, whose skin-softening components were developed by the International Dermal Institute to boost the appeal of shark petting zoos.
