I have been eating at your restaurant for the last 16 years, I even had my 13th birthday party at your restaurant. The last dining experience was not great, we waited for 20 minutes for someone to take our order in a fairly empty restaurant. One of your sushi chefs asked a waitress/ maybe one of the owners who was doing paperwork at a table behind us to take our order and she flat out refused! That is obviously not a great way to treat and keep patrons coming back. The service has really appeared to go down hill, as have the cleanliness of your bathrooms, but the food is still great so I will continue to order take out like I frequently do but probably not be back to dine inside.

No one was friendly, did not feel welcome and the fish portion was very small for the price. I go to many sushi places and this is not one I will come back too. Squid salad was fishy and Rolls were mostly rice with VERY little fish. I have normally only come here for $1 sushi although I will not be back ever again.

This place was horrible. As soon as we walked in they kept asking if we had a groupon. We said yes and the sushi was terrible. We ordered 4 rolls and all 4 rolls should have been raw fresh sushi and it was all cooked. Service was terrible and I am sure its all because we had a groupon.

As soon as I entered Sushi Gin I felt intimidated. Behind the sushi bar was a large Mexican won locking eyes with me and slightly leaning forward. I was asked twice if I would be using a groupin, which made me believe I was not getting a typical experience. Also it was very inconvienent to have to fumble with my phone while I was trying to look at the menu. We had sake which was good. The sushi it self was of the lowest caliber I've ever had. All of the fish was precut and not freshly prepared. One of the rolls which I can't recall the name of was deep fried. This is not sushi. In the future I'll be cautious when purchasing Groupon offers...

The service was slow, we got 3 of our 5 rolls then had to wait at least 15 min for our other two, we had to wait for our check, the booths were uncomfortable. Thankfully we had a groupon, we will not be back, sorry.

From Our Editors

After moving to Kansas City from Tokyo in the early 90s, Saeko Tsunashima wanted to create a restaurant similar to her favorites in Japan. She combined her original recipes, many of which were inspired by her mother, and enlisted culinary expertise from bona fide sushi chefs to create the menu at Sushi Gin Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Bar. Along the way, she developed considerable sushi skills, and regularly unveils her flashy knifesmanship at the sushi bar. To keep the gustatory experience fresh, she consistently creates new menu items, many of which pay homage to cities or natural phenomena, such as the New Orleans roll, the tornado roll, or the That One Time it Rained Halibut roll.
