Randy Newman was wonderful - he worked well with the Symphony and injected some humor in between numbers. It was truly enjoyable. The PSO's summer series is a great way to enjoy our wonderful symphony without the commitment of a season-long subscription.

Come into town early and have something to eat. There are many great restaurants within a 5-10 walk of Heinz Hall in any price range. Beside having a great meal, parking will be much easier or even the T or bus. Dress comfortably and be prepared to enjoy a very relaxing two hours. Saturday & Sunday matinees may offer the best values and least crowds. Come an be wowed!

One of Pittsburgh's treasures -- a world-class orchestra with a top conductor and many players who are outstanding soloists in their own right. A good variety of subscription options, plus many fine stand-alone programs dotted throughout the year.

From Our Editors

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1896, and its reputation was as big as its sound right from the start. Andrew Carnegie was an early backer, and reportedly claimed that it was the best orchestra in the country. More than a century later, it still enjoys its status as a nationally renowned organization. And the PSO continues to take pride in its acclaim—perhaps expanding on Carnegie's earlier view, current Music Director Manfred Honeck called the company "one of the world's finest orchestras."

The long-lived PSO makes its home in an equally historic venue. Converted from an opulent movie palace in 1971, when Americans swore off movies in favor of high culture, Heinz Hall proves itself an exceptional music venue. Fine acoustics please the ears, while eyes take in glittering chandeliers and glints of gold leaf.
