At BeYoga we offer many different yoga and fitness types of classes. We en courage all students from novice to advanced to partake of any and all classes offered. Your class is, after all what you make of it, and you can make it as challenging or relaxing as you like. You should always be mindful of your body and how it responds, practicing or participating without judgment or expectation, and with kindness and compassion to self. Benefits of any yoga or fitness regimen include increased flexibility and range of motion, strengthening and toning of all major muscle groups including the core, improving cardiovascular functioning, intensifying mental focus and acuity, and better balance and coordination. The warm and heated classes also help muscles to become more limber and pliable, and promote detoxification by increasing perspiration. Warm classes are performed in temperatures of up to 90 degrees, and hot classes can reach 108 degrees, and incorporate some level of humidity. Generally all fitness classes, as well as our yoga "Quickies" and power hours are 60 minutes long. Other yoga classes are 75 minutes.
Based on the traditional 26 posture sequence this is a great introduction to any heated yoga class, but can also challenge the more advanced practitioner. Postures are performed in a set sequence with each pose being performed twice in a row. There is a short rest between each pose, and a slightly longer rest after the standing series and before beginning the floor series. Breathing exercises (pranayama and kapalbhati) start and finish this practice.
Vinyasa means to flow, and that is exactly what you will do in this class that links postures together to create moving and dynamic sequences. Your breath creates your rhythm as you move through the asanas that are held for shorter periods of time. Classes usually begin with Sun Salutations, and can include various warrior postures, triangle poses, and balancing and floor work. As there is an element of instructor creativity some flows may include arm balancing and inversion poses as well as power elements such as plank and core sequences or intervals. You will find some classes to be gentle while others are powerful so that you may choose what practice is right for you on any particular day.
This class is a joining of the 26 and Vinyasa style classes, and can create a beautiful bridge between the two. Students who are eager yet trepidations to try Vinyasa, and those looking to expand beyond the 26 would enjoy this class. Postures from the 26 series are integrated with Sun Salutations and other flows from the Vinyasa style. The Barkan Fusion title indicates that the instructor is certified in the Barkan Method style of yoga created by Mr. Jimmy Barkan, a senior teacher for Bikram Choudhury for over 20 years. There is an element of instructor creativity so no two practices will be identical. A special word on the Barkan Method: It is a style of Hatha yoga that finds its roots from a lineage in Calcutta, India. From these roots, the method grew to also integrate postures from other styles of yoga, creating more variations and greater range of motion.
The original flow practice from India, a class for those that love the classics with a slightly modern twist. This athletic style of yoga begins with sun salutations and moves on to a set sequence of standing and seated postures, progressing onto inversions and backbends, all of which are based on Ashatnga's primary series also known as Yoga Chikitsa or Yoga Therapy. Use of the body's energy locks (bandhas) and ujjayi breathing make this practice hot from the inside.
Craving relaxation in your practice? looking to balance your yang or "muscular" postures, this is the class for you. This class focuses on the connective tissues of the body, the ligaments, the tendons, the joints. Most poses are done in a seated or prone position and are held for longer durations. Often props such as blankets, blocks and straps are used to promote more depth and openness to your stretches involving the hips, pelvis and lower spine mainly. Meditation can be an integral part of this practice.
A gentle flowing class with hints of a restorative flow set to candle light and soft music. A perfect way to end a long stressful work week, and start a relaxing, present weekend.
Inspired by the graceful positions of ballet and the long lean bodies of these dancers, Barre class literally brings it back to the barre. Class begins with a warm up and includes the use of free weights and push ups, moving on to perform various positions reminiscent of a typical ballet class at the barre. Core work is incorporated both at the barre and on the mat. Active and prolonged stretching are also included, and the interchange between these stretches and the bar moves creates a non-impact aerobic effect.
Booty Barre (Apprentice)
Conceived and developed by celebrity fitness expert Tracy Mallet, this class adds an element of sexy to your workout. A fun and energetic class set to upbeat music at a vigorous paces combines pilates, dance, and yoga for optimum results. Classes follow a common pattern of warmup, killer arms, a barre section that seriously targets your lower half, core work and a cool down. You will tone, burn, strengthen, stretch and shake your booty.
Linda Gendell’s Inside/Out
Created by our own Linda Gendell, this class is meant to work you from the inside, out. Meaning, not only will you feel the burn of movements that blend elements of Cross Fit and Pilates, but under Linda's guidance you will gain self confidence and feel empowered. Weighted balls, resistance tubes, gliders and straps of varying resistance are used to fast track your toning and sculpting results. Classes tend to focus, in an alternating fashion, on all major muscle groups: arms, legs, core, hips and butt. End on a strong note and with a positive affirmation.
The granddaddy or mommy of concentrated muscle engagement for overall body conditioning. This class employs controlled breathing during body weight resisted movement to build strength in the form of long, lean muscle, while improving muscle endurance and flexibility. A quality rather than quantity focus leads to the burn here. Moves like the hundred, roll up, and single and double leg stretches put much emphasize on spinal alignment and the pilates powerhouse? the muscles of your abdomen or core, lower back, hips and butt. Body awareness gained during class is transferred to daily life for better balance, coordination, posture, and grace of movement.
Can't decide between a yoga or fitness class? don't have time for both no worries Yogalates got you! This class combines the strength and flexibility exercises of a yoga practice with the core tightening and muscle toning moves of a pilates class.
