It's a bit out of the way for most of Portland but it's authentic and the people are nice.

The menu was great...the food was not! Perhaps some flavoring would have helped. Also, the meat was tough and chewy. For the price, we will definitely not be back. Great atmosphere, clean, and well decorated...but overpriced and terrible food!

They instigated there own rules for the Groupon, stating it could only be used for their lunch menu. It was pretty obvious they were intending to provide less food at a higher cost for those using a groupon.

Entrees and app were tasty. Ceviche was more like a shrimp cocktail as shrimp had been cooked (warm) . Ice tea was instant and already sweetened. Fries were replaced with rice - not sure why as no one else was in restaurant. No towels in the restroom. There are many restaurants in the area so little tihngs can make a big difference. Probably will not return.

We went just to try it out as we had heard and read mixed reviews. We had the fried shrimp. It was OK, but not great and we felt overpriced for the quantity and quality. The waiter was efficient, but not in the least friendly.

We really wanted to like this place--everyone was so sweet and kind and the space was wonderful--but the food was not good. I've eaten all the dishes I ordered elsewhere so I know how good it can be.

From Our Editors

The Galvez family invites guests to taste the vibrant flavors of their homestyle dishes at La Familia, creating hearty dishes with Spanish, Cuban, and Puerto Rican influence. Paella with mussels, clams, and shrimp, a recent addition to the menu, takes a starring role, as do Puerto Rican-style beef empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, and coconut flan. Recognizing that a wealth of culinary riches can be overwhelming, the Galvez family also offers Noche de Locura on Friday and Saturday nights–a chance for families to order five dishes to share as a table.
