Empowered began at a little dojo in Sherwood as Michelle Moore’s pet project. She noticed a gap in most martial arts training: students learn physical techniques, but don’t usually learn about what to watch out for off the mat, how to look out for themselves on the street, or what to do to avoid being chosen as a victim. Therefore she designed her class to not be all about martial arts. Basic physical techniques are taught, but mostly the course focuses on how to recognize and deter potential attackers, and avoid being attacked in the first place. Empowered offers group workshops and private lessons at homes, offices, churches, schools, and associations.
