As part of their 2011 EcoChallenge, NWEI hopes to engage more than 500 students in environmental issues by sharing their environmental-discussion courses with local youth. Partnering with five high schools and colleges in the Portland and Salem areas, NWEI will offer sustainability-education kits to inspire students to take measurable action to improve the environment. These environmental kits contain course guidebooks for either global warming or choices for sustainable living, as well as resource guides for students to self-facilitate the course. Teachers will also receive a resource guide to help oversee the program. With funding aid, Northwest Earth Institute can cover the costs of materials and production of the kits.
