The rivalry between University of Washington and Washington State fans is built right into the Husky vs. Cougar Rivalry Clash's race course. Supporters of the two teams, decked out in their most spirited school duds, start the chip-timed race from separate starting lines at King County's Marymoor Park, facing each other down in a show of intimidation. The fastest runners and varsity staring-contest athletes start at the front, and the race begins with the rival factions running straight toward each other like a medieval battlefront clash. Instead of a head-on collision, the two groups funnel into a single mass and share a single race course as they vie for the fastest times on the 5K or 10K route.
Regardless of the results, everyone buries the hatchet at a tailgate-style afterparty, where entertainment ranges from a dance-off to a tutu competition. The games and other competitive events give racers a chance to earn more glory for their schools. There are also awards for the fastest individuals.
