From Our Editors

Most homes have kitchens, but few have one that stretches to 1,500 square feet. Kitchen Thyme does, however, and rents the facility out by the hour, furnishing chefs or novices wanting to learn how to cook with the space and high-quality equipment to wine and dine parties of up to 75. Chefs can cook, roast, broil and boil with an array of different heat sources: an indoor charbroiler and griddle, a range with six burners, and four ovens. They can also chill cold dishes in a Sub-Zero refrigerator with a bottom freezer, outfitted with a glass front door that lets you make prolonged eye contact with the snowman who lives inside. Use of the kitchen is also available to non-cooking professionals and can also act as host to meetings, parties, or home-cooks wishing for a bigger kitchen.

The city of Richmond brings together the best of old and new. Its story spans over 400 years, and that has left the city with a unique blend of history, culture, and atmosphere. Never lacking in things to see and do, this Richmond guide shows there is something for everyone. Start exploring, and one will soon see there are plenty of things to do in Richmond.

For the history buff, Richmond is a treasure trove. Start by heading to the Virginia Historical Society, where people can immerse themselves in the story of the state. Or, take a stroll on Richmond’s 1.25-mile Canal Walk, which includes more than thirty markers and exhibits that reveal bits of the city’s past. A visit to the Virginia Capitol, designed by Thomas Jefferson, is also a wonderful way to bring history to life. If shopping is on the agenda, Richmond has tons of great venues. The downtown area offers Shockoe Slip, which was once a trading post in the 1600s. Today, the cobblestone streets are lined with boutiques, galleries, and gift shops. Also nearby is Shockoe Bottom, which offers the 17th Street Farmer’s Market, one of the oldest public markets in the country. Here, people can experience an eclectic blend of farm-fresh foods, unique gifts, and live entertainment.

Of the many Richmond things to do, dining is one of the most fun. Richmond literally offers a world of possibilities. If looking for traditional southern food, visit a hidden Family Secrets, where one can have delicious, sweet, and spicy barbecue. Or, have fried lake trout in the city at Croaker’s Spot. Whatever the craving, one will find it in Richmond. Also, be sure to check out Richmond deals for other great ideas and specials on several activities and dining options.
