Nationally certified massage therapist Roni Mattera derives many of her therapeutic bodywork techniques from traditional Chinese medicine. She's a longtime—and enthusiastic—student of kung fu, qi gong's slow flowing movements, and acupressure. The latter discipline is similar to acupuncture, in that the therapist stimulates specific points on the body to balance energy flow, release muscle tension, and enhance relaxation. This can benefit clients suffering from a variety of ailments, including neck tension and lower-back pain. Mattera also performs reiki, where an almost imperceptible touch aims to realign energy pathways.
