they don't open the kitchen till late .The cook was nice. He does a good job and the food was hot. It is bar food after all . So nothing special about the menu. Had nice interaction with the staff. They are smoking here. That was a turn off. The place wasn't very busy .At 5pm on Saturday. Go figure. The kitchen wasn't open when we arrived. So we had to wait an hour for food .Hard to drink on an empty belly. IMHO. Overall , typical hole in the wall city bar. We where to early to see the band. I was told that they usually have entertainment. But didn't stay long enough the enjoy it. As far a value , well they didn't honor my groupon for the full amount . But only half. Because it had expired

We went before a Cardinals game & were the only people eating a meal. The music was very loud. The waitress could hardly hear us place our order. She finally had someone turn it down.

Really good food. Don't let the location make your decision. It's worth a trip. Good burger and steak fries were awesome

They had some phoine problems and for about a month I was unable to reach them due to "disconnected" phone numbers. We ended up going there hoping they were still in business and they were. I think they have the phone problem fixed now.

Again, we have been there twice in the last 5 weeks, but didn't stay long because of LOUD MUSIC. The volume simply did not make for an enjoyable meal and pleasant conversation. It would appear that the place is targeting a young to middle age group. Had hoped it would have brought some of the atmosphere when it was Mary's. Restaurant had only two tables with folks eating. Have heard similar complains from a couple friends who tried out City Diner. The extensive remodeling was great. May try again in 6 weeks or so.

The fish taco fell apart, might want to do a double wrap for them like they do at Flaco's. The sauce served with them is awesome! Onion rings had promise and very happy it was a generous portion, but they were too greasy. Oil was probably not hot enough, but if not for being greasy, think we would have loved them. Steak fries were also a little underdone, but they weren't greasy at least. Draft beers at $4 for less than a pint is too expensive, even for a craft brew ... we were told they were a different price, but the bartender was new and wasn't that big a deal. Just wouldn't order one again at that price.

Service was almost non-existent; our water glasses were never refilled. We were never given a bill. She just took our groupon and told us what we owed and I have no idea how she came up with the amount. Food was fair at best. Soup was only luck warm.

From Our Editors

City Bistro specializes in hearty American sandwiches. Its menu catalogs a Tuscan grilled chicken wrap with provolone and aioli sauce, as well as a steak sandwich with grilled portabella mushrooms and on a toasted bun. Beyond their cheddar bacon cheeseburgers and BLTs, the team pours wine, mixes cocktails, and chills bottles of imported and domestic beer at their newly remodeled and expanded bar area that features a stage for live blues and Motown music.
