Excellent presentation. Lots of cool skulls & pelt! ! Saw 11 wolfs. They were really out and about today. Not just 1, the whole pack were running all over the place and came in close quite a bit of times. Great cause. I highly recommend this place.

Thoroughly interesting and worth the trip. Where else can you actually see these shy, intelligent animals and learn about their behavior? My family and I support the efforts to help them return to the wild and to their proper place in the ecosystem. The staff members at the Wolf Center are a great asset - engaging and very knowledgeable.

It's definitely off the beaten path, so be prepared for a little rugged climb with your vehicle. They are doing a great job there. I wish the group was not so large, it would have been easier to hear the volunteers that work so hard there!

Have your cameras ready! The docents who led us were amazing and knowledgeable. Their patience and willingness to answer questions was excellent. Lovely and educational way to spend a beautiful spring morning.

From Our Editors

California Wolf Center was founded in 1977 to educate the public about wildlife and ecology, specifically the history and behavior of the gray wolf. Located 50 miles east of San Diego, it houses 19 wolves—five Alaskan gray wolves and 14 of the approximately 358 Mexican gray wolves that exist worldwide. The wolves act as ambassadors for the wild, taking part in educational programs for the public. The center also participates in the Mexican Wolf Species Survival Plan, which aims to help the endangered species recover in the wild. At the facility, wolves live in off-exhibit enclosures that can help retain their natural behavior since some of them will eventually be released back into the wild.
