In 2008, after years of playing with tasty ingredients in her home kitchen, Viva Pops’ owner, Lisa Altmann, began to share her creative frozen concoctions at the Little Italy Mercato farmers market. Today, the delectable paletas, a traditional Latin American ice pop, lure sweet lovers into the company’s storefront location on Adams Avenue in Normal Heights. Viva Pops change with the season to reflect organic fruits and herbs produced by Altman’s local farm resources, and there no preservatives, additives or extra sugars. Over the top pop combos include pineapple or mango chili, and peach ginger and lavender lemonade with nectarine basil. Pop coveters in other neighborhoods will find select Viva Pops flavors at Sunday farmers markets in La Jolla and Hillcrest, Whole Foods Hillcrest and Lefty’s Chicago Pizzeria.
